Derek Ted is a California native songwriter. Growing up in the Bay Area, a region rich in music history, Derek discovered a deep appreciation for the art of songwriting. During his teen years, Derek immersed himself in the sounds of emo rock and punk music drawing influence from the dark and honest lyrical content of bands like Circa Survive, Copeland and Radiohead. After studying audio engineering at SF State, Derek spent the better half of the past decade refining his music recording and writing skills. He developed a low-fi, heartfelt folk sound with roots in classic rock and roll, and the DIY emo scene. While living in San Francisco, Derek and fellow song-writers created Sunroom Recordz & Salon, a DIY label which has released twenty five albums since 2015. Since moving to Los Angeles almost two years ago Derek has been sharing new songs and performing alongside acts like Anthony Green and Waxahatchee. He has toured the West coast and performed at SXSW. In June, Derek will be releasing his first studio EP “Hourglass Sand', venturing out of his usual lofi bedroom soundscape to a richer larger arrangement. He will be releasing this EP via Sunroom Recordz & Salon and touring the East Coast.
